I’m a firm believer that you have to laugh to keep from crying. And given the dumpster fire that 2020 has been, we were all in need of laughs when the lockdowns started around March.
Enter TikTok. At first, I downloaded the app to keep tabs on my oldest son’s content and to stay “hip with the kids”. But I was quickly sucked in to the “For You Page” and the curated content that had me snort-laughing into the wee hours of the morning. As I started creating my own short-form videos in an effort to entertain myself and a few friends, I realized there was a wonderful world of destigmatizing mental health and support for survivors of traumas on this predominantly Gen-Z app. Once I hit 10,000 followers, I decided it was time to expand my advocacy efforts to this space where I could authentically be myself.
As I am working to spread awareness with my “That’s What She Said” series and Q&A sessions on my case, I am also making incredible connections with other survivors. Keep an eye out for some of our new projects, but in the meantime check out some of my shenanigans on TikTok.
