It has occurred to me that it is 2017 and some people STILL think what a person is wearing contributes to their own sexual assault.

A response to a Facebook friend who disagreed with her sentiments about contributions to sexual victimization.

Whether you embrace modesty or are more liberal with the amount of skin you choose to show, it has absolutely no bearing on whether or not it’s ok to grope/assault/rape you. It is your choice to dress how you want. Just like it is your choice whether or not to grant another person consent to touch you or engage in sexual activities.

It is that simple. Sexual assault is about power and control, not sex.

I’m curious as to what my fellow survivors were wearing when they “asked for it”.

I’ll start…pajamas.
