When it comes to trauma, you should never tell someone to “just get over it”. Here’s Why:
Once you’ve been victimized, that trauma isn’t going anywhere. It lives with you now.
The question is, how are you comfortable existing in the same space as your new roommate?
It’s not going away. It’s not moving out. As much as we want it to.
What you do have control over is getting to know it. What makes it tick? What agitates it? What soothes it?
Are you going to hold it accountable when it doesn’t do the dishes or makes a mess?
Are you going to go to therapy and learn positive coping mechanisms for how to relate to this new roommate?
Are you going to teach this thing to be something you can live with? Or are you going to let it take over your entire home?
The choice is up to you.
Either way, we’re not getting over it.
We’re learning to live with it.
