We Need A Disney Princess Who…

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (#SAAM) and we will be discussing advocacy all month long.

Last week K&K hosted the first “LASKI Live” episode on Facebook as the viral Disney vs. Pixar bracket. It was quite the throwdown, but the tiaras made it pleasant. Besides, what could be better than dissecting your childhood nostalgia amidst wine, dogs, and a live internet audience? If you missed the live version, you can still watch it with real-time comments and see which flick won here: https://www.facebook.com/LASKIpodcast/

Planned Parenthood’s tweet about needing a Disney Princess who has had an abortion was not only tone-deaf but insulting to us as an intellectual society. It’s also why we can’t have nice things. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2018/03/27/planned-parenthood-called-disney-princess-whos-had-abortion-now-deleted-tweet/464016002/

Have you seen ‘Maleficent’? Kim makes the point that children can watch and understand the “villain” (who is the protagonist in their own movie) experiences immense pain. Adults can watch and understand one of the opening key scenes is actually a metaphor for sexual assault. It doesn’t need to be explained that way to children, however. Read the article she references here: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/06/11/angelina-jolie-maleficent-rape-scene_n_5485633.html

And Finally, It Is Not Pronounced “JIF”, It’s “GIF”.
